Hulhumalé, Maldives

We decided to stay on the island of Hulhumalé rather than one of the resort islands. Hulhumalé is a reclamation project that was purpose built to provide housing for Maldivian people. Most of the island a planned community with apartments, parks and shops for the locals. There is ferry system that takes locals to the various islands. Tourists tend to connect by seaplanes. Hulhumalé is for the locals so dress is conservative and no bikinis are permitted on the island. Very interesting to see the local life: BBQ with coconut shells, families enjoying the ocean, and folks literally hanging around. Very hot, even compared to Abu Dhabi, but fortunately we found a couple of Magnum Bars 🙂
