The Forbidden City

Today was one of the best days of our voyage. After yet another scrumptious breakfast we drove through Beijing morning rush hour to visit the Forbidden City. Our visit began we a long walk across Tiananmen Square, which literally means gate of heavenly peace. Most of us think of things other than peace when we hear the title.

Our tour through the Forbidden City was simply breathtaking. The history of each of the Emperor who called the vast property home is remarkable, climaxing with the “Last Emperor” who reigned for only three years from age three to six. The more than 8000 rooms are almost beyond belief. Despite the very cold weather weather the morning was amazing.

W enjoyed a rickshaw ride through a local community before having a first-class home cooked meal at a local residence. After anger rickshaw ride we visited The Temple of Heaven, a silk factory and ended the day enjoying Peking DuckĀ … what a great day. Tomorrow we will venture to the Great Wall.
